Hey all,
I'd just like to share with you guys. I hope you guys do read on!
Leading up to this Sunday's worship, I've been having a bit of a tough time. Having to deal with work, administration for Fusion and also other ministry work, I found it quite tough to really sit down and seek God. On top of that, I've been struck down by a bug (aka flu).
So I've really been having a tough week.
But on wed, I decided to take time out from everything and just lock myself in my room, and seek God. Just playing a few songs of worship and reading the bible, i realised that sometimes we are so caught up with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, that we forget to seek God. We forget to be still and listen to Him.
Sometimes, we cry out, "God! Where are you?" or we ask "God, show me a sign! Talk to me!". But what we don't realise is that He is really talking to us, but are we listening out for Him?
Sometimes His voice to us is a small whisper, and the noises of our everyday life is drowning Him out of our heads.
I learnt today, that we are like a pipe. We are there to let god's presence channel through us into the congregation and the people around us.
But sometimes we get so blocked up by the distractions around us, that we aren't letting any of His presence through.
Brothers and Sisters, I encourage you right now, after you finish reading this posts, to turn off every single appliance in your room that can be a distraction. Turn off your phone, turn off your computer, your television, your iPod and any other music.
Grab a guitar and just sing acapella, and worship God.
Grab a bible and just open up and read the first verse that comes up.
You might be surprised what comes up!
Listen to what and where God is leading you in your life.
Be obedient and obey Him!
Selah.
I had the opportunity to listen and learn from Planetshakers during a workshop this afternoon/evening. And they said something that coincidentally I've shared with you guys in my email this week to the band members playing with me.
I've realised that I'm playing in a band, be it the youth or adult band, almost every week. And sometimes, week in and week out, I start to just play the song and take it for granted.
The guys from Planetshakers reminded me not to let familiarity of leading worship and playing for worship rob me of the power of the words and the song.
This dangerous attitude can be paralyzing and crippling in what the God wants to do through us.
We start taking the presence of God for granted and just treat this worship set for granted and just another sunday.
We need to start treating God as who He is. With reverence. With a posture of worship.
He may be doing something through us, and we don't even know it!
Don't make it just another song or just another worship.
Instead, the next time you plug your iPod in and listen to a song, or you put a cd in and listen to Chris Tomlin/Hillsong/Planetshakers play, or the next time you play in a worship, use this opportunity to treat each song as a song to God.
Close your eyes and just worship Him and give Him the worth He deserves.
A lot of non-christians think that once you come to church and become a christian, you no longer are 'free'. But look at David, who stripped down and danced in the streets for the joy of the Lord. I'm not asking you to strip and dance in Gardens naked...
Brothers and sisters in Christ and my fellow rockers for God, I have a vision for our YM.
I have a vision that one day, we will see a generation of youths stand up and break free from any chains that is holding us back from worshipping God. I have a vision that we will see a generation of youths entrusting every aspect of their lives to God. I have a vision to see a generation of youths that worship God passionately and are not afraid to show it!
I hope to see a generation of youths that are willing to be undignified for Jesus, just as David was. And let nothing hold you back.
Use what is in your hand to fulfil what is in your heart.
He who puts gifts and talents in your hands, also placed purpose in your heart.
Find that purpose!
May the Lord empower us all to be a witness in our world.
At our homes.
At our schools.
At our work.
At our Universities.
At Youth Ministry.
At the 11.15 service.
On stage.
Off the stage.
Past the 4 walls of our church.
May the Lord empower us to be the difference in our world.
May we be the hands and feet of Jesus.
May we be the light in dark places.
Rather than be a generation that serves history, let us be a generation that makes history.
Amen.
In His Love,
Hernshung
